How We Enjoyed Our 4th of July

It seems simple enough, but with all the restrictions these days and the unrest in the world we really wanted to reflect on this day as a family.

1st we wanted to recognize that we are very appreciative of our privilege. To be specific – my white privilege.

2nd we wanted to recognize all of those in the past, present and future that sacrifice(d) their lives so that we can be safe and free. We also realize that even though we may feel free, there are others that are not free and certainly do not feel free.

3rd we actually felt more American by eating Mexican food for dinner on the 4th sans hot dogs and bbq.

4th we didn’t set off fireworks because to us – it is more important to think about the fumes emitted and the waste produced by these fireworks.

5th we got out of town to Santa Barbara and spent a lot of time walking outside (masks on of course). The fresh air was so                                                                                                        good for our soul and our bodies.

And finally, we truly believe we are fighting for our country and want to do our part in helping protect all of its’ citizens. Here are some photos from our short trip.

Hotel

La Quinta Inn & Suites – It was average. We changed our minds last minute (from Palm Springs) to Santa Barbara so there wasn’t much left for us to book at a reasonable price. Decent location, but lacks amenities and the rooms were a bit musty. It worked for us, but if you are looking for something trendy and chic this is not it.

Food/Coffee

Boathouse at Hendry’s Beach – love love love, yes and more yes.

Handlebar Coffee Roasters – great coffee and atmosphere. They have several locations

Arigato Sushi – The service was great, the sushi was average for me. On the pricier side for the quality.

The Lark – We didn’t actually eat here this time, but we have eaten here before. Great atmosphere and quality food. Smaller portions that are meant to share and it is $$ if you ask me. Don’t order take out from here, best to visit when you are able to “dine-in.”
